09:03 am - Who ever had me in the pool wins.... Amy and I went to a wedding this summer that had a reception on a boat, and then we all went to a bar in Minneapolis (With a special guest appearance by Schaffer), and we both were thinking about how by far the best part of weddings is that its the best way to get to have a giant party for all of your friends, and people you haven't seen for years, and that far more will come because asking for a friday and monday off so you can fly to where ever cause your friend is having a killer kegger isn't going to fly, but if you mention the wedding part then its TOTALLY acceptable.
Amy and I are officially engaged. And before anyone gets a smart-mouth, and asks what we are engaged in, we are engaged in a looking for a job for me so that we can then engage in planning a wedding. Its gonna be a while, at least a year and a half, as we want to get married outside, preferably in a park/garden designed by some big name/historical Landscape Architect, so we are looking at summer, and as I do not have a job that pays me more then $9 an hour, its not going to be happening this summer. The rough plan is to do the ceremony in Connecticut, both because her parents are there, and so we can have it in a state that recognizes gay marriage rights, with a big reception after, and we would, a week or 3 later, have a big reception/party in minnesota as well, for people who couldn't make the trip. Plan as of now is for both to be open bar, minus a few select drinks (Amy and My favs- looking like a gin martini with olives for mine, and a custom drink amy invented [Equal parts vodka and blood orange italian soda, topped with club soda and a splash of lemon juice]), which would cost some cash, but the cash would go to charity.
So really, the important stuff is all planned out already...
Oh, and we are using the ring that Amy's grandmother wore in her engagement photo for her engagment ring (Its amethyst- Amy's birthstone). The plan is, after I have cash, to get me a ring with an emerald (my birthstone) for my engagement ring, and then for the wedding we will switch, and she will get an emerald, and Ill have amethyst.
So there ya have it, the latest update for here in Evanston. Here's hoping that everyone has a better 2009 then they had a 2008, and that Obama's promise of massive infrastructure funding comes through, and the 21st century new deal can spur some economic growth, and growth in jobs for all fields, but especially compy-work, lawn care, graphic novels, school party planning, and being a general "law talking guy". ;p Current Mood: creative

12:17 am - The Great European Adventure, Chapter 1: Are We There Yet? Itinerary,Friday March 16: * Depart Hills about 4:00 PM, Kuzmekus Charter Bus to Logan Airport. Arrive Logan by 7:00 PM * Icelandic Air Flight #630 departs Boston, 9:30PM
There had been stories about a huge storm rolling in all day, a Nor-Easter that could drop a foot of snow and slush on all of Mass. After checking Iceland Air’s website all day, as of 3:45 the flight was still leaving and on time, so in the snow the 18 of us (Colin and Jocelyn were meeting us at the Airport, and Kevin was flying into Paris on Monday after a wedding he had to go to) got on to the bus to head to Boston.
The Drive there was an adventure in itself. There was a constant build up of slush on the windshield that the driver seemed to not notice. It was bad enough that as we got onto the Mass. Pike, Jack (our Department head/tour guide) offered to get out of the Bus and wipe off the wiper blades, but the driver didn’t seem to care… Until about an hour (probably 15 mins, but it seemed like an eternity) later, when he pulled off the side of the road to clean them off because we was looking through a 1sq. foot opening. The trip was basically us watching cars flying by us in the snow, seeing snow drifts next to the bus that were as tall as cars, and hitting rumble strips every mile, and praying we wouldn’t die on our way to the airport.
About 3 hours later we pulled into the airport, and the driver then decided he should inform us that it was the worst weather and driving he had ever seen on the Mass Pike. We got in line, sat around, and finally got up to the ticket counter. While Amy and I were getting our seats some crazy lady came up to the counter and started ranting: “Every other airline is canceling all of their flights! You Can’t be flying out of this!” to which the agents simply replied “Well, Iceland Air isn’t canceling, It doesn’t matter what other airline are doing.” This went on, finally the lady left, and we promptly began mocking her…maybe this was our big mistake.
We got through security, had some dinner at the Airport Houlihan’s (Crappy TGI Friday’s), and sat around… until it was about 9:30, and we noticed we were not on a plane yet. Then the news started to come in. The plane was delayed somewhere, the runways were opening and closing, and they were hoping to hit a gap and get the plane in, and then out with us on board. Then we hear the plane is in Bangor, Maine, and instead of coming to Logan, it might go to Iceland instead. We kept getting no information from Iceland Air, to the point of Jack getting yelled at by the agents just for asking if they knew what the story was after not getting any new information for 2 hours. Finally, around 12:30, about when we were supposed to be landing in Iceland, we finally hear the announcement: “Iceland Air Flight 630 has been cancelled, there may be an additional flight tomorrow” Jack again, went up and asked some questions, and we finally get out of the agents that there SHOULD be a flight added the next night, and at about the same time the agents make an annoyed announcement that “There are NO hotel rooms left in Boston, as every other plane has already been cancelled”. So everyone is on their own at 1 AM to find somewhere to sleep. We split up, and Amy and I went with Doug and Jocelyn to Jocelyn’s Fiancé’s house in Jamaica Plain to crash for the night.

04:32 pm - WHHHAAAAA???????? So Last weekend I was in town with 5 other UMass peoples at the American Society of Landscape Architecture National Conference. I met up with John, some people form Lietners, and some people from college, as well as going to educational sessions, bars, sculpture gardens, bars, resturaunts, and sponsored even ts filled with booze. I also did one interview i was fairly uninterested in, but it was good practice for me, and I gave my resume to about 10 firms who had folders to stuff. The firms included EDAW and EDSA, two of the largest LA/Interdisiplinary engineering firms in the world. (EDAW is 65, and has 1,100 professionals in 25 offices around the world, EDSA is 46 years old, and has around 220 LA's/Planners and have won multiple national awards) so I figured what the hell, i printed 25 resumes at Kinkos, and had 23 of them left on sunday, so i figured waht the hell...
so i got this email today...
Dear Frank,
Thank you for your interest in EDSA. We appreciate the time you took to submit your resume to us. Since your resume is impressive, we would be interested in seeing your work samples or a portfolio. Would you please submit the information to the address below?
Kind regards,
Bobby Bonilla
now, Bobby Bonilla does not infact work for edsa, but i figured if they send people to scour the net, they might not be to happy to see an HR person mentioned on the internets, either of them, so Mr. Bonilla, Former Florida Marlin, is their HR person today.
Anyway, I am SHOCKED... SHOCKED I SAY!
now i have to put a GOOD portfolio together...damn....
hehe ok, Its a good problem to have i know

01:25 am - 2.25 stars... So it was stormy tonight, and Silent Hill was showing at the cheap theater, so Amy and I figured, what the hell, lets go see it.
First, My overall grade is 2.25/5 stars, or 18/40 for Luke. This is my grade as a non gamer however, it moves up atleast 2-4 luke points as a gamer. I was pulled in for the first 30 mins, then it lost me fairly quickly. However (this is where the bonus points come in)as a gamer, I saw where if i was playing the game i would have been able to suspend belief that extra ting that was needed to keep me in it. The movement from one phase to the next and back just came a little to quick and seemingly randomly for me to stay in it. not a huge issue, but enough to get me out of the flow. My second problem was the baddies. While the ones that were in it were decent, they were short exposures and there were not enough kinds in my opinion. when i go to a movie with creepy monsters, i want a LOT of creepy monsters. My last issue is that there seems\ed to be to many unresolved issues in the end. things didnt really tie up neatly as i would like, and things seemed top be mentioned and not explained. in short the movie was OK, not great by any means, but a good time...
oh and the special effects... monsters were pretty pretty, but some of the killings came off as a little anime in a silly over bloody kinda way (you know the "the human body contains nearly 200 gallons of blood, all under 3,000 pounds of pressure" kinda silly blood) agian, not a huge issue, but pulled me out of it again.
anyway, the moral is as a movie, entertaining. as a comercial for the games... excellent. a little long for a comercial, and i cant find the first game anywhere (everyone is phasing out selling ps1 games with ps3 coming soon) so its off to ebay tomarrow....
so there ya go. its ok, and now i need to play the game. Current Location: my room Current Mood: scared...kinda...sorta..almost Current Music: sympathy for the devil

12:22 am - Billy came back to his senses!!! well its offical! what no one, atleast not me, saw coming, Smashing Pumpkins are back together. after the mediochre techno/perfect album (i found it got a LITTLE better with age), and their 6 year hiatus, they are coming back. no real details, but it sounds like its the same group from what the radio was saying to me (then i got freaked out cause the radio was talking to me, so i turned it on and drowned out the radios voice the the DJ's voice) It sounds like a reunion rather then a reforming, but who knows. anyway... smashingpumpkins.com Current Mood: shocked Current Music: Disarm-Smashing Pumpkins

10:09 pm - The Big N is watching.... Well, anyone who was waiting for a big announcement about Revolution at todays Nintendo's Speech at the Game Developer's conference today, it's my fault we didn't hear what we wanted... Granted, we did hear that Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is coming for DS later this year, and as far as REV, we did hear that along with the NES, SNES, and N64 downloadable games for the virtual Console (all first party, some third party) we heard something taht sounded like they will be playable with the revolution controller, which is promising for gun games if nothing else, and we did hear that over 1,000 TurboGrafx and SEGA GENISIS games will be available as well! But no real name announced, no game footage, no controller demo, no price, no release date, just more "wait until E3, you'll pee yourself" inuendo. why is this my fault you ask? Because I finally gave in.
After A few bouts thinking of getting a PS1, and even a PS2, I finally gave into SONY today. About an hour before the nintendo speech, I picked up a PSP. I must say that so far(meaning after only playing the one game I have for it, and messing around a little with online and the MP3's, I am very pleased. Part of me is very confused about this whole Sony support thing, but I think I'll get over it, as I now have a handheld ps1.7(essentially) and a 1 gig video Ipod(until I upgrade for even more memory) in one near shiney black package with a sizable screen.
anyway, enough of my mindless babbling and braggery, I have more races to win, and then some actual work to do. Current Mood: giddy Current Music: Space Oddity- Bowie

11:22 am - OOPS My bad, Vault is put by the Pepsi, but it is actaully a Coke product, so it really is just Surge in a new label... interesting....
|
10:31 am - SUUUURRRRGGGGGEEEEEEEE Not, sure if any of you have tried it, but i just bought "VAULT" pepsi's(sorry john) new "drinks like a soda, kicks like an energy drink" pop. and I have to say, they stole Coke's formula for Surge.
In my fun news, just finished another studio (a Design Competition in Boston), and now i'm working on my resume and porfolio for internships, and right now, I'm looking to head home for the summer with Amy, so Wild mountain, here we come!
anyway, I'm supposed to be working on that resume right now, so talk to you all later Current Mood: chipper Current Music: Powerman 5000- Worlds Collide
